10KC stands for 10 Kilometer Club
The goal is to get you moving… and no – not the stressful kind that you have to get someone to lift heavy things… and move towards getting and staying healthy.
10KC is a social group to encourage you to get moving and keep moving!
10KC is open to anyone and everyone!
The goal is to walk (crawl or run – whatever you want) the Free Press 10 kilometer walk in the Manitoba Marathon in 2007.
The group will meet indoors until the weather heats up next spring. Our routine schedule will be to walk at St Vital Shopping Centre on Saturday mornings at 8:30 am - 9:30 am and Sundays at 10am for 90 minutes to 2 hours. We will meet in the food court next to the fire place at the mall entrance. St Vital has a good floor and a good “track”. It is approximately 1 kilometer per "loop" around the mall. There is a Tim Horton’s for those who want to celebrate at the end of their walk. St Vital Centre is a walking track so for those who want to pick up the pace – you will have to wait until we go outside or locate a track to suit your needs.
When the weather cooperates (and there is no ice to slip on), we will go outside to a lovely city park for your weekly get-together walk.
Here is the exciting part…
There is no registration fee for joining the group (only registration into the marathon $20/adult, $14/child)
There is no fundraising for joining this group.
For starters – you need a few things…
A pair of runners (in fairly good shape)
An alarm clock – so you are not late!!
Well – you will feel better… you will make new friends or reacquaint with old ones, you will have more energy, you will feel a great sense of accomplishment crossing that finish line!!!
No – there is no pressure to enter the marathon. I have done the 10K a few times and it is very unique feeling to cross that finish line. Last year, I believe there were almost 4000 walkers – who never ran an inch – it is not about the time – it’s about moving and working your way to a healthy lifestyle. The energy and excitement from standing at the start line is amazing and what an experience to do it with your friends!!

This is not an exclusive club… please feel free to pass this email along to all of your friends – or tell them to join us on Sunday. We will meet every Sunday - time may vary when the temperature rises – so if you miss a week or someone wants to join later – that is fine!!! The more the merrier!!
